Hey All,
I wanted to remind you all about College Eve and Family Day coming up the second weekend in September. College eve on September 9th is a required event for all students, so please make sure your daughter attends and makes the most of it. Many colleges and universities will have representatives on campus to provide information to our students. Even though many juniors don't feel like it is necessary for them to go, this is a great opportunity for them to start gathering information on colleges they are interested in and to discover new colleges they may not have considered before. Seniors are asked to attend beginning at 3:30 and juniors may attend beginning at 4:30. Parents are also invited to attend with students (or on your own) to ask questions you may have about application or financial aid, so take advantage of this opportunity if you will be in town Friday afternoon.
On Saturday September 10th, everyone is invited to campus for NCSSM's annual Family Day! This day gives you an opportunity to visit your daughter's classes, attend other information sessions and events, and schedule meetings with your daughters teacher, academic advisor, counselor, or SLI (if you would like to schedule a meeting with me, please email me directly to schedule a time). In addition, 3rd Bryan will be hosting a family day potluck, which I hope you will all be able to attend. I will post more details on the potluck once I have a more detailed schedule for the day.
I hope to see you all on either September 9th or 10th!

Everything you wanted to know...
Residential buildings, particular parking areas, mail box numbers, course schedules...over the next few days, families will be presented with a great deal of information. It is possible that a question just on tip of your tongue will get lost.
Please find our version of frequently asked questions..."Everything you wanted to know but didn't have time to ask". The link is http://www.ncssm.edu/drupal/sites/default/files/everything%20you%20wanted%20to%20know%202011.pdf. It will include dates for school dances, yearbook pictures and a reference guide of whom to call for specific information.
If you have a question beyond this list, please feel free to contact Kevin Cromwell cromwell@ncssm.edu or (919) 416-2805.

Service Learning Opportunities
Below are some service events and information that our Service Learning Coordinator, Sue Anne Lewis, asked us to pass on to you all.
1. Service Learning at Science & Math – The title of the Service Learning Facebook page where students can find all SL opportunities (official signups will still be at Bryan Desk, but they can click attend to put it on their Facebook calendar to not forget about it), share pictures of volunteering, and give me input on what types of opportunities they have interest in. Also, at the end of next year, I’ll have people post about their Service Learning so that the incoming juniors and those who need to still do theirs, can have examples. Hope to highlight each county in NC.
2. Share Our Shoes - http://www.shareourshoes.org/ - a nonprofit that helps provide shoes to those who can afford them. All shoes (adult/youth) will be accepted for our Back-to-School drive, but we’re targeting school aged children. Students can bring back new or gently used shoes to donate – siblings, parents, etc. There will be a collection box at the ice cream social dance and outside of 1E following move in until August 16th at 10:30pm. If students would like to volunteer at the Durham event to distribute the shoes, let me know. That is August 18th from 10-2pm. It is during the weekday, so I doubt there will be many volunteers.
3. 9/11 Day of Service Volunteer Dates: (part of: www.911day.org) August 20th leave NCSSM at 8:45 am for group 1, 9:15 group 2 to volunteer at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC in Durham. August 27th time to leave NCSSM is TBD, volunteering time is from 8am – 12pm.
