Stocking Stuffing

As one of our community service projects this month, we are working with 1st Beall and 1E2E2D to provide stockings for students at a local elementary school.  On Tuesday, we will be delivering a stocking stuffed with small gifts to all the Kindergarten-2nd grade students, and Dr. Miller will be accompanying us to read "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" to the students as well.  Tonight, we prepared for this activity by stuffing the stockings.  After all the work was done, we enjoyed some cookies and a bedtime story of "A Visit From St. Nicholas" (better known as "Twas the Night Before Christmas") by Clement Clark Moore.  The girls were especially fascinated by how their recollections of the poem differed from the actual text--they were especially disturbed by the last line being "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night" instead of merry Christmas.  Here is a link to the original text, if you are interested in reviewing it for yourself.

Cookie Baking and Hot Chocolate

Today, we took some time out of our busy schedules to bake cookies and drink hot chocolate.  Here are a couple pictures of our efforts.

3B Profiles-Alice

Thanks to Alice for being our most recent blog profile! She was even kind enough to write a poem for us.

A Little Poem About Me
Ice cream is my favorite
Especially chocolate
Rain days over sunny days are preferred
No, my dreams are not to be deterred
16 years young
Looking forward for words of wisdom to be sung
Dream is to live a life
Full of wonder and strife
And yet that’s the point
Life is sometimes a little disjoint, never quite on a ballerina’s point
Color me any
Because I am of many

Hello. My name is Alice and I currently attend the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. I enjoy reading, writing, and the beach. If I could travel the world, I would love to do just that. One of the places I would love to see is somewhere I do not know of yet; somewhere to surprise me. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, and helping out my community. I really hope you have enjoyed reading about me!

Letters to Santa

Last week, the girls had a chance to write letters to Santa as part of the Macy's Believe Campaign.  For every letter mailed through Macy's, the company donates to the Make a Wish foundation.  On Friday, some of the girls from hall went on a loop to Macy's to mail their letters.  Here are a few pictures.
