October Calendar
Here is the calendar for October. This is just an outline, as usual. We often add extra activities as we go, so if you have ideas or want to do something with hall, please let me know. I will also be posting a list of supplies we need in case you are interested in donating something to hall.

Out Of Town
I wanted to let everyone know that I will be out of town this weekend (Oct. 1-3) for a wedding. Megan Lamb was gracious enough to agree to look after 3rd Bryan while I am away. If you have a concern or need help that weekend, please contact her at lamb@ncssm.edu or by phone at (919) 416-2996. As always, you can contact the SLI on duty at the Bryan desk for routine questions by calling (919) 416-2825. If you know now that your daughter will be needing paperwork for an overnight visit or curfew extension, please go ahead and take care of that early. And if you have any concerns or questions about me being out of town, as always, don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks!

Pinkest Room
Each week I give out 2 awards at room inspection. One is always for cleanest room, but the other is a rotating award that changes each week. Last week, at the request of several students, we decided to do a pinkest room award. Here are some pictures from 2 of the rooms that participated. Kerstin De la torre was our winner because of her sheer overwhelming pinkness, but Elizabeth Moseley and Rebekah Proctor were runners up because of their immense amount of pink. I think that Elizabeth should have gotten an award for the most variety of items in pink and Rebekah should win the pink clothing and accessories award. They all received certificate of recognition on their doors. Below are a few pictures from Kerstin and Elizabeth's rooms. Rebekah had undecorated before I could take pictures of hers.
Hall Meeting Shout Out
I wanted to give Abagail Burrus a big shout out for being the winner of our Unicorn Trivia Challenge last night at hall meeting. She got 3 of the 7 questions correct and won a fabulous unicorn prize pack that included a unicorn magnet, unicorn bookmark, and a book titled "The Seventh Unicorn". Several other girls got 2 of the 7 questions correct. So that you can get a sense of how hard this trivia was, I have copied the question below. See if you can beat Abagail's score!
1. What is the name of the popular adult swim game about a unicorn?
2. What country’s royal coat of arms features 2 unicorns?
3. In what movie do “A brave unicorn and a magician fight an evil king who is obsessed with attempting to capture the world's unicorns”(IMDB)?
4. What book is the following quote from: "...Well, now that we have seen each other," said the Unicorn, "If you'll believe in me, I'll believe in you."?
5. What series of tapestries, each featuring a woman and a unicorn, is made of 6 works, 5 representing the human senses, and the 6th representing love?
6. What auto maker makes a motorcycle called a unicorn?
7. What website that caters to geeks added “Canned Unicorn Meat” to their list of products as an April fool’s joke?
I would also like the thank David Malcolm for sponsoring our hall study break last night. The girls thoroughly enjoyed having a healthy snack at our meeting. Thanks again!

Upcoming Hall Activities
I wanted to let you all know about two upcoming hall events that I announced yesterday at our hall meeting.
First, on Saturday, October 23rd we will be going to the NC State Fair in Raleigh. The fair has carnival games and rides, lots of great food, informational exhibits about NC agriculture, animal exhibits, crafts displays, and much more. For more information about the fair visit their website at http://www.ncstatefair.org/.
For our second activity, I have to give a big THANK YOU to Kathy Boyd! The Boyd family is donating the use of their beach house on the Outer Banks so that the hall can take a trip to the beach together. We will be going the weekend of November 12-14 to spend 2 nights in Rodanthe.
The girls were all thrilled about these activities, and I encouraged them all the look at their schedules, talk to their parents, and seriously consider taking part in these great opportunities.
Please let me know if you have questions or concerns about these activities as parents.

Hall Door
I wanted to make sure that you all were aware that our hall door has been repaired and is now locked like all the other doors on campus. I know many of you had expressed concerns about this to me, and I wanted to be sure that you all knew the problem had been fixed.
