Spring is finally here! It is one of my favorite times on campus and in Durham. There are so many exciting opportunities on and off campus this time of the year. So let me take this opportunity to remind you all of a few rules, and tell you about some fun things to do.
Rules:
Please remember to follow all walking guidelines. Even though it is staying light later in the day, students still need to pay attention to walking curfew and remember never to walk alone.
Sunbathing is permitting on campus, but is restricted to the area between beall and reynolds, or in the interior of campus. This is for safety, so that the students are not sunbathing right beside the road.
Fun Spring Activities:
Walk to Duke Gardens and explore! There are so many things there to see.
Walk to one of the 2 parks that are within a 5 minute walk from campus (Oval park up Club Blvd. and the one near Guess Rd. just north of campus)
Play frisbee on campus. Better yet, practice your ultimate fisbee skills so you will be ready when IM Ultimate rolls around again.
Walk up Broad St. to Ben and Jerry's, or walk up 9th and out Main to Locopops. It is a local business and their popsicles are amazing.
Take a DATA bus to downtown Durham and explore the fun shops and restaurants there.
Take a bus to the library in downtown Durham. Check out a friends of the library book sale if possible.
Go watch a Durham Bulls baseball game. It is fun and they have ballpark food.
Take a "Pop the Bubble Loop" to the Durham Farmers Marker.
Visit Jordan Lake or the Eno River state park.
Take a day trip to the outer banks, the NC mountains, or the Asheboro Zoo!
Walk around the Watts-Hillandale Neighborhood and check out all the fabulous flowers and landscaping.
Go see an NCSSM soccer, baseball, or softball game.
There are so many more things to do in the spring! Seek out whatever appeals to you, but get out and explore Durham and our campus to see how wonderful spring here can be.

Less than a week!
Hey All,
It is less than a week until prom! Please remember that if your student plans to go anywhere off campus for prom night, the prom overnight form that can be found in the prom packet must be faxed to my at (919) 416-2829 before Tuesday, April 5th.
And don't forget about the after prom lock in on campus, with games, movies, prizes, and a hot breakfast from Honeys! It is a great option for students who do not want to go off campus.
Parents, there is still time for you to volunteer to help set up, chaperon, or clean up as well. Contact Ariel Carpenter if you want more details.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
