After a lot of planning, it is official--NCSSM will be attempting a Guinness World Record!! Specifically, we will be trying to break the record for the most food collected in a 24 hour period at a single location (that location being NCSSM).
This all started with Reynolds 1E2E2D. Their hall theme for this year was records. As part of that theme they had the idea to try and break a world record. After a lot of initial ideas that got tossed out, they finally settled on this attempt which will not only let them break a record, but will also help the needy in NC. Earlier this week, they received notification that their proposal to be considered as an official world record has been accepted.
There is still a lot of planning to be done on this event, but what we know so far is that it is set for March 20th and will be a BIG event. The current record to break is 509,147 lbs. That is an almost unfathomable amount of food, but it is also needed. For this project, we have partnered with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC and according to their statistics there are 481,515 people are at risk of hunger in the 34 NC counties they serve.
