Long ago I promised updates about some of the events we had on hall and in the business of winter break and traveling I never got those posted. In light of that, I will post several things tonight talking about past events, upcoming events, and other news. I will try to keep my posts a little more regular from now on.
December was a hectic month both on and off campus, but we had a lot of fun around campus before leaving (a day early) for a nice long break. In addition to the hall potluck which I mentioned before, we also had the campus wide semi-formal dance and our Angel Tree charity project.
As you can tell from the pictures below, semi-formal gives everyone on campus a chance to get all spiffed up and looking nice. Most of the students make special effort to look their best and have a great time together. In addition to just going to the dance, the girls on hall also had a semi-formal fashion show on Friday night before the dance to make sure their outfits were just right and a getting ready party where they helped one another do hair and make-up and put on just the right finishing touches.Another hall event from December is the Angel Tree charity project we did. If you have never heard of Angel Tree, it is a program sponsored by the Salvation Army that provides needy children clothes and toys they may not otherwise get over the holidays. As a hall we choose to sponsor 2 children--and 11 year old girl named Janet who asked for purses, a bike, and nail polish, and an 8 year old boy named Reynaldo Jr. who asked for monopoly, twister, and cars. As a hall we not only got each of the children the dream gifts that they requested, but got them clothes and other small gifts as well. Below are pictures of the items we purchased.
I was immensely impressed with the way the girls on hall handled this project. They were very excited to be helping out others, and, despite our limited funds, the girls were determined to get everything on both of the children's lists-even the bike which was a little pricey. I think the girls did a wonderful job with this charity project and it made all of us appreciate the things that we have.
One last December activity I want to mention is our hall stress relief pillow fight. The girls organized this activity and seemed to have a great time with it. We are, in fact, planning another one for this month.
