Scabies Update

Dear  Parents,

I hope that everyone is well and looking forward to the last few weeks before Summer Vacation.

I have recently updated the residents  about a recent occurrence on hall.  At least one resident on hall has been diagnosed and treated for scabies.  Scabies are caused by a small mite that burrows under the skin; causing a feint pencil line like rash.  Itching and irritation tends to be more noticeable in evening hours.  Transmittal from one person to another is caused by direct skin-to-skin contact.  Scabies is more common in residential settings and has no direct link to hygiene.

The students diagnosed have received medication for treatment.  In addition, bed linens and recently worn clothes have been laundered.  As a precaution, we are having the linens and recently worn clothes of roommates laundered.  Lounge furniture cushions are being treated as well.

I updated the residents so that any other students that may be experiencing itching or rash like symptoms would know to go to the clinic for diagnosis and treatment.

We are encouraging all students to take home towels, linens and recently worn clothes over the upcoming extended to be laundered.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

 Linsey
