State Fair

This weekend, 8 of us went to the NC State Fair in Raleigh, and, luckily, the rain held off long enough for us to have a great time.  Here are a few pictures from the students who went (Thanks to Maddy and Madeleine for the pictures!).
Admiring my awesome parking job.  I can't park my  car that straight.  How did I manage that in a bus?

This Ferris Wheel was a special hit because the cars looked like cups of Kraft Mac and Cheese.

Did you know that the first Ferris Wheel was invented for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.  It was meant to be an answer to the Eiffel tower which had been the centerpiece for the 1889 World's Fair.

3B Profiles-Sarah

Hey! My name is Sarah, and I'm a junior on Third Bryan. I'm from Winston-Salem, NC, where I live with my mom, dad, 13 year old brother (Sam), and our beagle/dachshund (Bean). My studies at NCSSM are focused around math currently; I'll be taking multivariable calculus this year! I'm also interested in design, engineering, and psychology. I'm not quite sure what I'll pursue in college, but I know it'll be math related. Also, I've played classical guitar since 3rd grade, and I've always been very passionate about visual arts. When I'm not doing homework, my main hobby is sleeping, and I'm quite good at it. When awake, my other hobbies include the internet, math, listening to music, and daydreaming.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
Probably Teal Blue or Sea Foam Green.

If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be?
Sleep and eat. Also frolic in a field with pug puppies.

If money was no object, what would you do all day?
I would buy lots of baby animals and cuddle with them.

What is one thing you are mildly obsessed with?
Definitely the music I listen to. Namely, Tegan and Sara, Marina and the Diamonds, Panic! at the Disco, and Young the Giant. I also really like bow ties, snuggly things, juice, and beanies.

3B Profiles-Jenna

Thanks to Jenna for being our next blog profile and doing such a wonderful job with her information.

Hi! My name is Jenna, and I am a senior here on Third Bryan, and I was a Thirby last year too. I live in Waxhaw NC, with my Mom, Dad, and a 10 year old little sister. I also have an older sister who is about to go to her base in the Air Force as an officer.

I am a COMPLETE math nerd, and get giddy over graph theory, multi-variable, cryptology - numbers in general! I'm have a lot of interests, so I sometimes forget to sleep! I am a dancer and a choreographer, and I also draw, sew, play guitar and piano, and I like to study Chinese, act, sing, read comics and play video games. I'm really passionate about nerd culture, the arts, and academics! Next to math though, my favorite thing to do is listen to music and go to rock shows!

After high school I want to study applied mathematics and computer science, but I have NO idea what I'm going to do. I have considered being a cryptologist or a mathematical modeler, but I think it's too soon to decide just yet! I love all of the girls on 3B and I know that the rest of this year is going to go as fabulously as first tri did! :)

Out of Town

I wanted to let everyone know that I will be out of town from about lunch time Thursday, October 10th, until late evening on Sunday, October 13th.  While I am away, Sue Anne Lewis, the SLI on 1E2E2D, will be helping out with 3rd Bryan.  If you need help with something routine (something you would normally contact me about, like an overnight permission form), please contact Sue Anne either by email at Lewis@ncssm.edu or by phone at (919) 416-2814.  As usual, if you need help immediately and cannot reach the SLI for the hall, please contact the Bryan Desk at (919) 416-2825.

I would encourage you to be as proactive as possible, and if you know in advance that you will need my help with something for this weekend, go ahead and contact me.  I am happy to complete forms or answer any questions in advance.

3B Profiles-Madeleine T

Hi! My name is Madeleine T and I am a junior this year on Third Bryan. I am from the small town of Denver, North Carolina (not Colorado) which, is on Lake Norman. I live with my dad, mom, little sister (Natalie, who is almost 13), a 19-year-old cat (Francesca), a chocolate lab (Godiva), and 2 gerbils (Piper and Eve). I went to Lincoln Charter School since kindergarten before coming to Smath. I came to Science and Math because I want to be a pharmacist and my old school didn’t have the amazing science curriculum we have here. At NCSSM, I have learned so much about myself, the world around me  while making some of the best friends I’ll probably ever have. Shout out to all my 3B girls!  When I’m not doing homework (so, so much homework), I love to read, volunteer, and hang out with friends and family. I really enjoy water sports (skiing, slalom skiing, wakeboarding, and knee-boarding). After I graduate, I want to get a scholarship (fingers-crossed) to a great pharmacy school, graduate, get a decent job, and then get married and start a family. My dream is to take medicine to places in need whether it be local or abroad.

PS: I am willing to go to Greece, like right now if anyone would be willing to take me J Or if you have food. Food would be appreciated too J

3B Profiles-Vishwa

Here is our latest profile from one of the girls on hall.  We finally got a junior to volunteer!  Yay!

Vishwa and her family!  Don't they look lovely.

Hi, my name is Vishwa. I am a very forgetful person. I love drawing and art. I especially love to sleep and eat which I know everyone else on this hall does too. I'm also not very good with words and writing stuff. So, anyways, I am going to tell you about a very important moment in my life. For the past month I have been here, I have been skipping breakfast because I only have one sleep-in and it's on a Monday. Anyways, today Dr.Hudson let us out of AmStud 30 minutes earlier, so I had a chance to eat breakfast!!! It was so not great, but I had waffles. So.... something else about me is that I have a little brother, named Soham. He's 12 years old. Thinking about my life story, I was born in India. When I was 2, I moved to Canada, lived there for 5 years and became a Canadian citizen. During the 3rd grade, I moved to New Jersey and lived there for 5 years. Then, the summer before the 9th grade I moved to Lumberton, NC. Then I got into NCSSM and here I am! :)

October Calendar

I love fall and am so excited that it is that time of year already!  This month we are taking hall trips to the Durham Friends of the Library Book Sale, the NC State Fair, and to Downtown Durham for dinner.  We are prepping for exams with some stress relieving activities like Yoga with Su and Meditation with 1st Hill, but still making sure we have time for some fun withe activities like capture the flag with Ground Reynolds and Karaoke.  All in all, it is a busy month.
